Alternative Ways To Unlock Your Android Phone

There must be an easier way for your Android phone to recognize you without relying on a passcode, PIN, or pattern lock, right? While fingerprint readers are a good start, they sometimes fail even when you use them correctly, leaving you to enter a PIN or swipe pattern to unlock your device. Here are some easier ways to keep your phone unlocked.

Keep Your Phone Unlocked While It’s in Your Pocket

  1. Go to Settings: Tap on Settings > Security > Smart Lock.
  2. Confirm Your Screen Lock: Enter your PIN or pattern.
  3. Enable On-body Detection: Tap On-body detection and flip the switch to On.

Keep Your Phone Unlocked at Home, Work, or a Specific Place

  1. Access Smart Lock Settings: Tap Settings > Security > Smart Lock > Trusted places.
  2. Add a Location: Tap Add location.
  3. Choose a Place: Swipe on the map to select a place, like your home, or use the Search button to find an address.

Keep Your Phone Unlocked Near a Trusted Device

  1. Navigate to Trusted Devices: Tap Settings > Smart Lock > Trusted devices.
  2. Add a Trusted Device: Tap Add trusted device.

Unlock Your Phone with Your Face

  1. Set Up Face Recognition: Tap Settings > Security > Smart Lock > Trusted face, then tap Set Up.
  2. Scan Your Face: Your phone will scan your face to create a recognition profile. It's best to scan your face multiple times in different lighting conditions and with/without glasses if you wear them.

Unlock Your Phone with Your Voice

  1. Enable Voice Recognition: Tap Settings > Security > Smart Lock > Trusted voice and follow the prompts.
  2. Train Your Phone: Say “OK Google” three times to train your phone to recognize your voice.

Once set up, lock your phone and then say “OK Google.” A “Listening...” prompt will appear, allowing you to either issue a voice command or dismiss the prompt and swipe up to access your home screen.

By using these Smart Lock features, you can keep your Android phone secure yet easily accessible without the hassle of constantly entering your PIN, passcode, or swipe pattern.
